In Loving Memory of Betty Irene Sekanick
July 27, 1928 – December 27, 2024
Betty Irene (Yanuck) Sekanick, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the Amber Woods Care Center in Cheswick, Pennsylvania. Born on July 27, 1928, in Smock, PA, she was the daughter of Robert and Rose (Grabowski) Yanuck.
Betty was a graduate of Hurst High School, Class of 1946. She worked in South Greensburg for 12 years before marrying Richard L. Sekanick, with whom she shared a devoted and loving marriage of 65 years. The couple made their home in New Kensington before relocating to Amber Woods Assisted Living Center in Harmar in 2021.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Eugene Yanuck, her grandparents Albert and Mary Grabowski, Anton Yanuck, and Caroline (Zylka) Yanuck, as well as her cherished husband, Richard L. Sekanick.
Betty’s life was filled with love and dedication to her family. She is survived by her twin sons, Brian Sekanick (Audrey Lecocq) of New Kensington, and Bruce Sekanick (Karen McBride) of Girard, Ohio; her five grandchildren, Vincent (Cassie) Sekanick, Garrett (Samantha) Sekanick, Kelsey (Patrick) Cavanaugh, Brandon Sekanick, and Ryan Sekanick; and her four great-grandchildren, Abby, Luke, Lydia, and Ronan.
A devout member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Church in New Kensington, Betty was known for her creativity and skill in sewing and crafts, particularly cross-stitch, which she enjoyed throughout her life.
Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Viewing with take place on January 2, 2024, from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm and on January 3, 2024, from 9:00 am until the time of parting prayers at 10:30 am at the R. J. Slater Funeral Home in New Kensington. A funeral Mass will be following at St Mary of Czestochowa at 11:00 am on January 3, with interment to follow at Greenwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, New Kensington, or the Villages of Harmar, Cheswick, in honor of Betty’s love for her community and her family
