Brian Eric Zimmerman, 59, of Kittanning, PA lost his fight with ALS, (Lou Gherig's Disease), at his home in Kittanning, PA on Monday, April 29, 2024.
Brian was born on July 1, 1964, in Natrona Heights, PA to Russell and the late Barbara Zimmerman. Brian is survived by his wife of 36 years, Linda Sanford Zimmerman, and his son, Garrett Zimmerman both of Kittanning; his parents, Russell (Margaret) Zimmerman of Apollo, PA; his siblings, Belinda (Kevin) Jones of Avonmore, PA, Shari (Jim) Jarrett of Lower Burrell, PA, Michael (Pam) Powell of Sarver, PA, Lisa (John) Scitticatt of Erie, and Brenda (Shawn) McKown of Lower Burrell, PA, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and his life-long best friend, Monica Minesky-Aiello of Penn Hills, PA.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Zimmerman, paternal grandparents, Charles E. Zimmerman and Stella Mae Stiffy Zimmerman; James Bell, and Helen (Paul) Barbus.
Brian graduated from Kiski Area High School in 1982. He was an honor student and was very active in music, participating in chorus and playing lead guitar for the Jazz-Rock Ensemble. He also played in a local band called Galaxy.
He was employed as a machine operator at Farmland Foods, Arnold, PA for 24 years and left in March of 2023, due to his declining health.
Brian was a man with a very big heart and a huge soft spot for children, animals, and especially unwanted dogs. He took them in and gave them forever homes. He rode his Harley and participated in many Toys For Tots events. He loved being a father and always made time for his nieces and nephews.
Before his illness, Brian liked to walk his Pitt Bull, Daisy, around Kittanning. He stopped frequently along the way to talk to people and let Daisy get some pats and treats. Daisy loved everyone and Brian wanted people to see that Pitts are not naturally a vicious breed, it's people that make them that way.
Throughout his life, Brian also enjoyed riding horses, camping, fishing, travelling, and watching car races, but mostly he loved being outside, hanging out with friends and family, pulling pranks, and making people laugh.
Brian's family would like to invite those who knew him to a casual get-together to celebrate Brian's life on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 1:00-4:00 pm at Massa Harbison Park, Girl Scout House, 100-104 Oates Blvd., New Kensington, PA 15068
