Carolyn Heeter, 95, of Sligo, passed away peacefully on Feb. 18, 2025 after a brief
illness.
Carolyn was born July 29, 1929 on a farm outside of Sligo, to the late Ralph and
Florence Elliott. She married Russell Heeter on September 17, 1950 and they enjoyed
54 years together. Carolyn had a long career as the postmaster in Sligo. She was also
well-known around the Sligo area for her candy making, jello salads, pies, and bread
baking which she shared with family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards, bowling,
ice cream, and especially the holidays and beach trips with her children and
grandchildren.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter Marcia Rhea (Bill) of Gibsonia, and son Tom Heeter
(Rita) of Sligo. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Additionally, she is survived by one sister, Marjorie Smith of Mayport and a brother-in-
law, John Heeter (Charlotte) of Knox.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Lisa. Her brothers,
John Elliott and Albert Elliott, along with her sisters Eileen Varner, Eleanor Elliott, and
Geraldine Silvis also passed previously.
There will be a celebration of her life at a later date.
