Charlene Rider, a beloved resident of New Kensington, passed away on February 16, 2025, at the age of 71 after a brief battle with lung cancer. Born to the late Charles and Barbara Miller of New Kensington, Charlene was an avid reader, surpassing a thousand books read both in print and on her well-loved Kindle, making her a standout among book club enthusiasts.
Throughout her life, Charlene embraced numerous roles with dedication and love—as a devoted mother known affectionately as "mom, mommy, mom," a cherished nana, a supportive wife, sister, friend, and coworker. With a background in social services, she dedicated herself as Personnel Manager at Walmart before retiring early to care for her beloved husband, who was disabled.
She is survived by her children: Erika, Austin, and Savannah (Damon) of New Kensington, and Heather of Florida; her siblings: Donna, Linda, Charles, and Laurie; as well as nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Charlene was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, William (Bill) Rider, her parents Charles and Barbara, and her son Joseph. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, February 21, from 6–8 p.m. at RJ Slater IV Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1000 Freeport Road, New Kensington.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Lung Cancer Association in memory of Charlene Rider. Condolences can be left at www.rjslater.com.
