(1959 - 2023)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David R. "Mogie" Magill Jr., age 64, of Lower Burrell, on Thursday, December 21, 2023. Mogie was a devoted father to Patrick, Connor, and Kelsie Magill, and the cherished son of Sara "McGoldrick" Thomas and the late David Magill Sr. He is also survived by his sister, Laureen Taylor.
Born in 1959, Mogie was a proud graduate of Burrell High School, Class of 1977. His passion for the culinary arts led him to Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, where he earned his bachelor's degree. Mogie's culinary journey flourished, and he became the esteemed head chef at Grieco's Carefree Inn for many years. In 1997, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of opening his own establishment, Magill's Grill Mogie's Irish Pub.
Mogie's impact on the community of Lower Burrell and its surrounding areas is immeasurable. Known for his selflessness and unwavering determination, he treated strangers like friends and gave back to the community in ways that touched the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
As the proprietor of Magill's Grill, Mogie crafted a haven for the community—a place of solace and camaraderie. His legacy of generosity and compassion will endure through the community's continued support of the organizations closest to his heart: The Brian Shaw Foundation and Back the Blue.
Mogie's enduring spirit is a testament to his belief that he remains an integral part of the community, assuring friends and family that no one can separate him from their lives, as he continues to thrive within the hearts of those who loved him. He believed in living authentically and encouraged others to embrace their true selves, even if it meant going against the grain.
In honor of Mogie's memory, let us come together to celebrate his life, remembering the joy he brought to our hearts. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have crossed paths with this remarkable soul. As Mogie causes a stir in the heavens above, his legacy of kindness will endure in the hearts of those who loved him.
