Elwood "Woody" McGregor

Surrounded by his loving, close-knit family, Elwood "Woody" Nevin McGregor left us on August 24, 2026 in Ohio. He is formerly from New Kensington, PA. He was born on May 16, 1938, in New Kensington to the late Merrill and Pauline (Hecker) McGregor. He served in the Korean War. He was the owner of McGregor's Sunoco Station 8th Street at Barnes Street until 1980, Fireman for the City of New Kensington, Police Officer for the City of New Kensington for 28 years, and Head of Security for Citizens General Hospital from 1991 until its closure. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He would always say "Love You More" followed by "Loved You First."

Survivors include his wife Carol Ann McGregor (Giordano) who he was married to short of 70 years; son Bill (Susie) of Easton, PA, daughters Julie (David) of Dubois, PA, Tammy (Jim) of North Ridgeville, OH and Amy (Dan) of Spencerport, NY; grandchildren Candace (Austin) Karper, Joshua (Jenna) Campbell, Katie (Scott) Fleming, Samantha (John) McGraw, Jordan (Kevin) Gnacinski, Cody (Samantha) Miller, Makenzie (Benn) Frazier and Seth (Tori) Miller; great grandchildren Lexi Fleming; Arianna, Dominic and Ella Campbell; Carter, Chase and Caden McGraw; Scarlett and Hazel Gnacinski; Colton and Brielle Miller; Remy Frazier; and Everhett Miller. Siblings Gwendolyn Becker, Judith Strong, Carol (Tony) Purpura and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Jacqueline Wolford, brothers-in-law Jim Becker, Jack Wolford and Gordon Strong. Visitation will be from 2:00pm to 6:00pm on Sunday, August 30 at the RJ Slater Funeral Home in New Kensington where a service will be held on Monday, August 31 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to The Officer Brian Shaw Foundation in Woody McGregor's name.
