Francis M Whalen

Francis M. Whalen 92 New Kensington Pa. Frank joined the Lord on 2/1/26 after a brief stay at Good Samaritan Hospice House in Wexford Pa. He was born on 7/31/33 in New Kensington Pa.

He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in New Kensington. Frank was a devout Christian! He really enjoyed reading, especially the Bible and science, psychology, and WWII literature. An avid Steelers fan, and also Pitt and Penn State fan. He really enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed coaching football for the Ar-Ken Wrens. He graduated from Ken High, High school in 1952 where he played football and basketball. Later he received an associate's degree from the University of Pittsburgh in psychology. He served honorably in the United States Army and was stationed in Tokyo during the Korean War and later in the Army reserves during the Vietnam era. Early in his adult life, he performed police work in New York City and a police officer in New Kensington. He then worked for Jones and Laughlin Steel Co. and 33 years at Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. in Brackenridge before retiring in 1998.

He was preceded in death by his parents James and Mirabel Whalen of New Kensington Pa., brother James Whalen of Jeannette Pa., sister Rosalie Grinder of Springdale Pa.,

He is survived by his wife Patti (Fabrick) Whalen, New Kensington, sons Michael F. Whalen/Renee (Giuliani) Whalen of New Kensington Pa., David Whalen/Naomi (Sasaki) Whalen of Richmond Virginia, Frank Whalen/Coleen (White) Whalen of Saxonburg, daughters Mira Whalen/Michael Marietti of New Kensington, Bonnie/Eric Yockey of Adrian. Grandchildren Ryan/Kaitlyn Fletcher of Pittsburgh, Shawn/Courtney (Korber) Whalen of New Kensington, Jonathan Whalen of Cranberry Twp, Samuel Whalen of Harrisburg, Madison Whalen of Berlin Germany, Lexington Whalen of Tokyo Japan, Abigail Whalen of Saxonburg, Elisabeth Whalen of Saxonburg. Great grandchildren: Finnegan and Cullen Whalen New Kensington. Frank will be sadly missed by his entire family.


Family and friends will be received on Thursday, Feb 5th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the RJ SLATER IV FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 1000 Freeport Road, New Kensington (724-335-0010) where a parting prayer service will be held on Friday, Feb. 6th at 9:30 am. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 am in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington Committal services and burial will follow in the Greenwood MW Lower Burrell Pa.
