Glenda K. (Schantz) Hosac, 84, of Lower Burrell (Westmoreland County), passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, October 6, 2023, in her home, with her family by her side, after a lengthy illness.
She was born February 24, 1939, in Lower Burrell to the late Glenn and Gladys (Arner) Schantz. Glenda grew up in Braeburn and lived in Braeburn Heights for most of her life. She was well-loved by everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In her younger days, Glenda was a volunteer firefighter for Braeview VFD, Braeburn VFD, and was an EMT. She worked various jobs throughout her life but favored being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She was known for her delicious homemade buns and chocolate chip cookies. She loved growing flowers and always had a beautiful yard.
Glenda leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of 49 years, Andrew Joseph Hosac, her sister, Dolores Borish, her children, Thomas (Janneal) Shank, Donna (Jim Shurina) Cline, John (Janice) Shank, and Andrea (Steve) Kowaluk, her 9 grandchildren, Quincy Thomas, David Thomas, Amber Todd, Thomas Shank, Kehley Shank, Courtney Kowaluk, Jonathan Shank, Jacob Shank, and Jonah Shank, and her 12 Great-Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, mentioned above, her eldest daughter, Priscilla Shank Perry in February 2023, 2 Great-Grandchildren, Isaac Thomas and Makenzie McClellan, her siblings, William Michael Schantz, John Daniel Schantz, David Schantz, Alfrieda Hartman, Virginia Arnold, Alberta Caldwell, and Marianne Leger.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, October 12th from 6 pm until the time of funeral ceremonies at 8 pm in the RJ SLATER IV FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 1000 Freeport Road, New Kensington (724-335-0010). The Reverend Dean Ward will officiate.
The family would like to thank Monarch Hospice for their dedication and care that made it possible to keep Glenda at home for the last stage of her wonderful life.
