Howard Vokes, Jr.
Howard Vokes, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family and devoted sister and caregiver, Gladys Sablinsky, on June 4th, 2026. Having lived a life filled with faith, family, music, and service to others, Howard was ready to meet his Savior.
Born to the late Howard Vokes, Sr. and Martha (Quetot) Vokes, Howard began his career as a baker at the age of 16 in Florida. Throughout his life, he worked in several bakeries before retiring from Giant Eagle in Sarver, where he was well known for his talents as both a baker and cake decorator.
Howard inherited a deep love of music from his father and spent much of his life sharing that passion with others. He enjoyed creating CDs for family and friends and was an accomplished musician who played bass guitar, rhythm guitar, fiddle, and mandolin. He and his Father, Howard Vokes Sr, shared a love of music and operated a recording studio together.
Above all, Howard was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved oldest son, Howard Vokes III.
He is survived by his daughter, Jamie (Dale) Browning of Florida; his son, Thomas (Melissa) Vokes of Murrysville; He is also survived by seven siblings: Martha Belin of Masontown, Victoria Hack Gregg, Benjamin (Donna) Vokes, Gladys Sablinsky, Agnes (Joe) Polak, Sharon Vokes Nealer, and William (Denise) Vokes of Springdale.
Howard was the proud grandfather of Kyle, Amber, and Faith of Florida; Jeremy, Jacob, Holly, Matthew, Martin, and Heather of New Kensington; and Molly and Riley of Murrysville and his Great granddaughter, Rose Marie. He is also survived by 27 nieces and nephews, along with many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Barbara and Wally Adamson for their kindness, support, and friendship throughout Howard's illness. Special thanks are also extended to the Allegheny Health Network Hospice team, especially his nurse, Larry, for the compassionate care provided to Howard and his family.
Howard was a faithful member of United Family Ministries in Leechburg, where he especially loved being part of the music ministry. The family is grateful to Pastor John and Judy Phillips and the entire congregation for their prayers, love, and support. They would also like to thank Linda for the special bond of prayer and assistance she provided to Howard's sister, Martha.
Howard will be remembered for his strong faith, his love of music, his dedication to his family, and the kindness he showed to others throughout his life. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
