Jack Lucy

March 29, 1928 — January 3, 2025

JOHN F. (Jack) LUCY
Surrounded by family, John F. (Jack) Lucy, of Slippery Rock, PA, entered into eternal rest on January 3, 2025, while under hospice care at AHN-Grove City. Jack was born on March 29, 1928 in Harrison, NJ, to Michael and Susan (McQuillen) Lucy. He married Dorothy V. (Dot) Lyman on January 8, 1949. Married 67 years, she preceded him in death on April 2, 2016. Jack was the proud father of Michael J. Lucy, who preceded him in death on August 18, 2013.

Jack was a proud U.S. Navy veteran serving in WWII and the Korean War, both stateside and aboard the USS Tripoli. GO NAVY- BEAT ARMY! He retired from Crucible Steel and then started his “retirement” job at Disney World, in the Transportation Department, as a Watercraft pilot and trainer. He retired after 27 years at age 84.

“Uncle Jack” as he was affectionately known to relatives and family friends, was a talented, self-taught photographer who liked to travel with wife, Dot, making friends in KOA campgrounds and while sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. They also enjoyed square dancing and a good Manhattan (or 2!). Defying all odds, Jack was an avid computer user keeping up with hundreds of friends through emails and Face Book. Through his photographs, we all traveled with him and shared family memories. Uncle Jack will be missed, but fondly remembered.

Jack is survived by his loving sister, Margaret R. Taylor, Kearny, NJ; niece Karen (Taylor) and husband, Tom Perry and family, with whom he made his home, in Slippery Rock, PA; grandsons Dr. John Lucy, DVM, and Brian Lucy, and great-grandson, Daniel Lucy, all of New Jersey. Uncle Jack is also survived by his special godson, Joseph (Agnes) Adamczyk and family, Millsboro, DE, and nieces and nephews and their families, Andrew Taylor, Janet Taylor, Maggie (Taylor) Gassert, John Taylor and former daughter-in-law Karen (Nick) Gurico. In addition to his parents, his wife and son, Jack was preceded in death by his infant sister, Doris, brother in law, Daniel Taylor, nephew Daniel Taylor, Jr and niece Susan Taylor (Ted) Gajewski.

The family would like to thank the AHN Oncology, Wound Clinic and Home Healthcare staff for on-going care, as well as AHN Hospice.

Interment will be held at a later date at Canaveral Veterans Cemetery, Mims, FL where he will join wife, Dot and son, Michael. Arrangements are entrusted to the RJ Slater IV Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Kensington.
