Joseph James Novak

Joseph James Novak, 76 passed peacefully at home in New Kensington, Pa on January 16,
2025. Born January 8, 1949 in Graz, Austria. Joseph was the son of the late Dr. Joseph and
Adelaide Novak. He is survived by his long time companion Deborah (Yaworsky) Perry.
Siblings; Cornelia Harlovic (Pgh, PA ), Barbara Novak (UT), Heidi Craig (HI ) and Peter
Novak (Lynette) (CO) Nephews; Roman Harlovic (Eva) , Eric Harlovic (Emily) and Alex
Novak. Nieces; Ellie Jones (Nick), Kelsey Eigner (Ben) and Corinne Novak. In addition he
has seven grandnephews/nieces.
Joseph (Joe) was most known in Pittsburgh and the Tristate area for his Tennis skills. As a
young boy he spent four summers at Camp Marist on Ossippee Lake, NH. The camp is run
by the Catholic Marist Brothers and well known for their athletic programs. Participating in
all sports, Joe notably excelled in Archery. At Fox Chapel High School he lettered yearly in
swimming and track and field (high jump) events. It was in his early twenties that Joe turned
to a passion for Tennis. He played competitively and was sought after as a skilled Tennis
Instructor. He was an athlete well into his sixties. Joe also dedicated many years in
assisting Ms. Perry in the management of a personal care home in New Kensington, Pa.
Many residents expressed their appreciation of his kind care and service. Among Joe's
other accomplishments was acquiring a Masters in Education and serving years for his
country in the Army reserves where he acquired Sharpshooter Honors. He was trained and
worked as a Medical Corpsman.
The Family humbly extends gratefulness for Ms. Deborah Perry, who was dedicated to his
daily care and advocated services for him through several years of serious health needs.
Family also expresses a sincere appreciation to all the specialty medical teams providing care
with the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) and Good Samaritan for providing home hospice.
With private interment Joseph will be laid to rest in service honor at The National Cemetery of
the Alleghenies in Washington County, Pa.
