June Marie Elder of Cabot, PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the age of 89. After several months of declining health, June died peacefully in her sleep.
June was born in Baltimore, MD, on May 16, 1936, to father, Frank Thomas Butehorn, and mother, Idabel Eleanor Butehorn. Raised in a multi-generational household along with her older brother, Robert, she learned at an early age the joy of caregiving. June went to Towson University and graduated with a degree in Education. She met her future husband, John Severn Elder, at a church function and they married in 1959. June was an elementary school teacher for over 25 years and later became a certified Medical Assistant, using those skills learned to work for Home Instead which helped older adults live safely and independently at home. After moving to Florida, she also became Director of Lifeline in Citrus County. One of the most enjoyable and rewarding experiences for her was the 10 years that she and her husband travelled the country by RV to explore new places (making it all the way to Alaska!), meeting new people and building churches through Mission Builders. June loved life and was happiest when she was with her family, tending her garden, swimming in the pool, making a home-cooked meal or hosting volleyball parties. Her love of learning, always full of questions, contributed to her strong beliefs and becoming a faithful servant of God. Her kindness and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She taught us the importance of family, the power of a caring heart, and the joy of finding beauty in everyday moments.
June was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Robert, and her husband of 61 wonderful years, John.
She is survived by children Timothy Elder, Jonathan Elder, Patricia Landers and James Elder, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of June's life will be planned for a future time.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider a donation to Concordia Lutheran Ministries or the Alzheimer's Association in her memory.
