Leo Moore

September 12, 1933 — March 31, 2023

Mr. Leo Moore joined the ancestors in God’s Kingdom on Friday, March 31, 2023 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was the son of Joe Moore and Bertha Creer Moore (both deceased). He was born in Kemper County, Mississippi on September 12, 1933. Mr. Moore graduated from Porterville High School on April 3, 1953. Mr. Moore served his country in the Korean War with the United States Army and received an honorable discharge on March 31, 1963. He was a devoted and loving husband to Rev. Dr. Judith C. Moore for over 37 years.

Mr. Moore leaves to mourn his wife, Judith who she affectionately called “Chocolate Chip”; Sons Larry Neville (deceased), Otis McCaleb (deceased) and Leo Moore, Jr. (deceased); Siblings John Wesley Moore (Anita), Willie Moore Robertson, Earnest Moore (Ducey), Frankie Lee Moore, Bertha Moore, Ethereen Moore Huddleston, Joseph Moore (Susie, both deceased), Sr., Bertha Lee Moore Hearn and Joann Moore Allen; Sisters-in-Law Cynthia Clarke, Adrienne Dennis (deceased), Dianne Campbell Forsh, Ruby Campbell Pulliam (deceased), Melanie L. Campbell and Kimberly Harris; Brother-in-Law Isaac Campbell, Jr.; Grandchildren Darcel Tyson (John) and Christopher Tucker McCaleb (Angela); and Great Grandchildren Chrystal Tyson, John Tyson Jr., Charelle McCaleb, Christian McCaleb, Alex McCaleb, Gabrielle McCaleb and Caliyah Serket; God Son Christopher Lemont Givner, who he loved to take to church every Sunday morning when he was growing up; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Moore loved and cherished his family and church where he faithfully served as a trustee and usher at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in New Kensington, PA. He was a technician for Alcoa and retired after 25 years and went on to work for a car dealership for 9 more years. Anyone who knew him knows that he loved his luxury cars and especially Lincolns! He was a jokester, loved to have a good time and belonged to the Elks for many years. Although he was a hard worker and worked 5 days a week, he loved to sing, dance, and entertain folks in his spare time. He loved to barbecue every holiday. He was such a handsome and charming brother and loved to dress!

He also had an adventurous spirit and went along with his wife, who he affectionately called Joe-dee, on many trips that included Martha’s Vineyard, a cruise to Bermuda, white-water rafting and whale watching. He loved to watch Let’s Make a Deal, Jeopardy, wrestling and westerns, especially Gunsmoke. And his hobby was feeding the birds out his kitchen window every day. Over the past year he tried his hand at fishing in Florida, but somehow the fishing pole ended up in the water on countless occasions.

Although Mr. Moore suffered many health challenges, he overcame them with resilience every time. Mr. Leo “The Lion” Moore was a kind and thoughtful soul and will be missed and remembered by the many lives he touched.
