"In Loving Memory of Lorraine Harris Driver
On April 23, 2024, surrounded by the warmth of her loved ones, Lorraine Harris Driver was called home to be with the Lord. Born on December 4, 1931, in Vandergrift, PA, to the late Heflin and Bertha Cox, Lorraine was a beacon of love and light to all who knew her.
Growing up alongside her cherished siblings Vivian, Alma, Herman, Norman, LaRue, Barbara, Sherille, and Rachonne, Lorraine learned the value of family, loyalty, and compassion. She held them close to her heart throughout her life.
After graduating from Vandergrift High School, Lorraine moved to New Kensington, PA and embarked on a journey filled with love and devotion. She married her first love, the late Chester E. Harris Sr., and together they welcomed their beloved son, Chipper, into the world. Lorraine's dedication to Chipper knew no bounds, and she stood proudly by his side. Whether cheering him on from the sidelines of a basketball court or offering unwavering support,
Lorraine was the epitome of a devoted mother.
Later in life, Lorraine found love again with the late John H. Driver. Their bond was not only one of love but also of friendship, enriching each other's lives in countless ways.
Professionally, Lorraine was a shining example of dedication and skill. As a dedicated secretary for the Westmoreland County Commissioner's Office, she served with distinction, earning the respect and admiration of all who crossed her path. Her mastery of shorthand was legendary, a testament to her commitment to excellence.
Lorraine's faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she shared her love for God with everyone she met. As a longtime member and church secretary at Mt Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, she touched countless lives with her kindness and devotion.
Retirement brought new joys and responsibilities as Lorraine devoted herself to nurturing her beloved granddaughter, Caylen. She imparted her wisdom, love for God, and the value of hard work, leaving an indelible mark on Caylen's life.
In addition to her family and faith, Lorraine found joy in simple pleasures—tending to her garden, savoring delicious meals, playing many rounds of golf and cheering on her beloved Steelers. Her genuine warmth and infectious laughter brought joy to all who knew her."
"Lorraine's memory will be cherished by her granddaughters Cindy (Stephen) Shaulis and Caylen (Kevin) Dooley, her great-grandchildren Kellen and Maia Shaulis, and Dax and Dawson Dooley. She also leaves behind her sisters LaRue Martin, Sherille Poynter, and Rachonne Cox, nephew and niece and closest friends Chico and Colleen Harris, her beloved nieces Amanda, her goddaughter, and Megan Harris, her step-daughter Chrystal Harris-Dooley, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and church family.
Lorraine was preceded in death by a constellation of loved ones who await her with open arms in the realm beyond. Joining her in eternal peace are both of her beloved husbands, Chester E. Harris Sr. and John H. Driver, who walked by her side in life's journey. Her heart finds solace in the embrace of her son, Chester E. Harris Jr. (Chipper), whom she now rejoins in heavenly reunion. Her parents, Heflin and Bertha Cox, and stepmother, Velma Cox, whose love and guidance shaped her into the remarkable woman she became. Lorraine is reunited with her sisters Vivian, Alma, and Barbara, along with Barbara's husband, John Jenkins, brother-in-law Charles (Chuck) Martin, her brothers Herman and Norman, along with their beloved spouses, Ida and Margaret (Peggy) Cox. Her cousins Andrew and Almeda Cox. And her mother-in-law, Mary Harris.
Though Lorraine has bid farewell to this earthly realm, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. Her laughter, love, and unwavering faith leave an indelible legacy that will continue to inspire for generations to come.
As we mourn the loss of a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, we take solace in knowing that Lorraine is now reunited with her loved ones in the embrace of our heavenly Father. Until we meet again, may her memory be a blessing and a source of comfort.
