Marilyn Claassen

October 9, 1945 — February 18, 2024

Marilyn A. (Harkins) Claassen, born on October 9th, 1945, cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family on February 18th, 2024. Her life was a testament to love, strength, and compassion.

She was a loving wife of Gregory Claassen for 45 years. Together they enjoyed taking rides in the car, attending social and sporting events, and making cherished memories with all their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren over the years.

Her role as a mother was defined by grace, sacrifice and endless love. Her children, Marion (Daniel) Worthing, sons James (Wendy) and Casey (Michele) Claassen, found her to be an unshakeable source of strength and tenderness. Her 9 wonderful grandchildren, Daniel Worthing, Christian (Juliana) Worthing, Victoria (Robert) Hasselbach, Kelsey (Jay) Sorrels, Brody, Tess, Andrew, Alaina, and Addison Claassen, were blessed to have her as a source of love and laughter and her great-grandchildren, Isabella Loeffler, Darron Worthing, Christian Sorrels, Noelle Sorrels, and Landon Worthing, brought continuous joy to her life. She was also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to being an anchor of strength for her family, she was known for her contributions to the community. Her generosity, kindness, and empathy touched the lives of many beyond her family circle. She will be dearly missed to all who had the honor of knowing her.

Marilyn was a secretary for the New Kensington Arnold School District for 25 years and after retiring she was a member of the school board. She had the honor of being the first secretary in the State of Pennsylvania to be trained at Saint Vincent College for the Student Assistant Program for children at risk. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #533 holding the position of Madam President and Past Madam President for several years.

Marilyn will be welcomed in heaven by her parents, Guy and Marion Harkins and big brother Daniel Harkins.

A celebration of life will take place at The Fraternal Order of Eagles, 2134 Freeport Road, New Kensington, PA 15068 on Sunday February 25th, 2024, from 1-5 PM. All who were touched by her presence are invited to join in commemorating the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
