Markel "Sonny" Dimaio

Markel "Sonny" Dimaio, 89, of Lower Burrell, PA, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025. He was born in Markel, PA on August 30, 1935, to the late Louie and Jennie (Rapp) Dimaio. Sonny was the beloved husband of his late wife Patricia (1994) and is survived by his current wife Arleen Dimiao.

Sonny was a loving father to Mark (Bobbi) Dimaio, Tim Dimaio, and stepfather to Mark Giger, Troy (Alex) Calabrese, and the late Scott Giger. He cherished his role as grandfather to Heather (fiancé Mike Shaw) Dimaio, Alicia and Michael Alexiades, and Alyssa and Carson Calabrese. Sonny was also a brother to Theresa Hunter and leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

In his free time, Sonny enjoyed playing golf, working on cars, and tackling various projects around the house. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan and could often be found grilling something delicious for family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Monday from 4–8 p.m. at Rj Slater IV Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1000 Freeport Rd, New Kensington. A Blessing Service will be held on Tuesday at 12 Noon at the funeral home, followed by internment at Greenwood Memorial Park.
