Martha Slack, a long-time resident of Plum Borough, passed away on Friday June 23, 2017, at her home of 65 years. Born on March 12, 1927, in Creekside, Pa. to the late Wenzel Kline and Agnes Sim, Martha was the ninth of 11 children. She married John Slack in June 1948 and remained married for 56 years until John's death in July 2004. Martha and John had six children, Richard (Peggy) Slack, Marilyn (Jack) Backus, Linda (David) Shear, Robert Slack, Helen (Paul) Stamatakis and Katherine (Robert) Miller; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Martha was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker and had a saintly disposition. She helped neighbors in need, provided lengthy care and comfort to family members before they passed, provided wise counsel and empathized in the sorrow and delighted in the joyous news of others. She spent many summers gardening and canning. She was a faithful member of St. Januarius church in Renton, Pa. for many years and later a member of St. Mary's of Czestochowa in New Kensington, where she was a member of Christian Mothers. In addition to her children, Martha is survived by her siblings, Helen, Rose, Elizabeth, John and Josephine.
