Pamela Smith Newton, of Lower Burrell and formerly of Oakmont, passed away surrounded by the love of her family.
Born September 2, 1949, in Pittsburgh, Pamela was the daughter of the late John Reynolds Smith and Jean Gray Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James L. Newton Jr.; her brother, Jack Smith Jr.; and her sisters, Michelle Smith Amtmann and Melanie J. Smith. Pamela was the youngest of four children.
She is survived by her son, James L. Newton III; daughter-in-law, Adrianna Rugh; her beloved granddaughters, Lydia Weaver and Genevieve Switala; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Pamela graduated from Athens College in Georgia and went on to become an art teacher. She later worked as an office assistant for A.D. Weaver until her retirement. She was also an active lifetime member of the Lower Burrell VFW Post 92.
Pamela will be remembered for her spunky personality, quick wit and infectious laugh. Artistically talented and full of life, she loved being outdoors and especially enjoyed boating and skiing. Pamela had a vibrant social life and treasured the time she spent with family and friends.
Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Family and friends will be received Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at RJ Slater IV Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1000 Freeport Road, New Kensington, PA 15068, 724-335-0100.
