Robert “Radar” Jackson Hoffman of Oak Hill, West Virginia, formerly of Hico, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the age of 70. Born on June 7, 1953, in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Bobbie Hoffman and Zella (Bartrum) Hoffman.
Robert is survived by his sister Susan (Larry) Paul of Hico, West Virginia, brother Timothy (Nancy) Hoffman of Daytona Beach, Florida, niece Autumn (Thomas) Figueroa of Little Elm, Texas, niece Christy (Troy) Tonkin of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, and nephew Travis Hoffman of Daytona Beach, Florida. Robert is also survived by his great nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
Robert’s journey and passion for mechanics started at a young age. Following his graduation from Ansted High School in ‘73, he began his trade as an auto-mechanic at Ansted Motors, King Coal Chevrolet and finally in the whitewater industry at Mountain River Tours and Ace Adventure Resort. He often referred to himself as an old school mechanic, he just liked to fix things. If he couldn’t find a part, he would just build one. He was an icon and cornerstone in his industry, he kept the buses running and the tourist coming. He was a simple man with a big heart for those closest to him. He was a “helper”, and his final gift was the gift of life through donation through CORE (Center for Organ Recovery and Education).
The family would like to personally thank the Take Me Home program of West Virginia that allowed Robert to live out the past two years in the comfort of his home, Marcia Price for her gracious caregiving, and his community of Twin Oaks.
In lieu of a donation, please consider the gift of life through organ donation. https://donatelife.net
A celebration of life will be planned later in the Summer of 2024.
