Robert W. Newell Sr

Age 87, of Ligonier, PA, on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, passed away peacefully. Bob was born in Stahlstown, PA on January 7, 1939, and graduated from Ligonier Valley High School.

Bob is survived by his five children: Robert W. (Michelle) Newell Jr. of Houston, TX, Ronald E. Newell of Bradford Woods, Randy S. (Karen) Newell of Lower Burrell, Rodney J. Newell of Corpus Christi, TX, and Lisa A. Newell of Bradford Woods. Robert was a proud and cherished Grandpap to his nine grandchildren: Kelli, Stephanie, Trevor, Rebecca, Travis, Hannah, Abigail, Eva, and Thomas, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife Margaret "Peggy" (Harmon); parents, Ernest and Phyllis Newell; and brothers, William, Harold, Richard, Frank, and John.

Bob was a hard worker, as he typically held down multiple jobs. His full-time job was working at Latrobe Steel/Timken, where he worked his way up to become a manager. He also worked part-time as a TV repairman for several businesses around Ligonier. He eventually started his own business, Birdwatcher Satellites, selling and repairing both large and small satellite dishes.

Even with all his jobs he somehow found time to help coach his sons in several sports. The pinnacle of his coaching career was coaching Ligonier West to the 1974 Little League championship over crosstown rival Ligonier East.

Bob enjoyed traveling with his wife, Peggy, including trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Lake Tahoe, and Europe.
