Rosita (Castro) Namey passed away peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Born Oct. 13, 1929, in New Kensington, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (George) Castro. Rosita and her husband, Gabe, were self-employed grocers. They owned and operated Gabe's Market in New Kensington. They taught several generations of children how to count money when they purchased penny candy. Not only were they partners in business and raising a family, but also in their generosity and love that extended well beyond immediate family and friends. Rosita's true passion was her family. All family functions great and small centered around her cooking, especially Syrian foods. She made sure that her home was open and welcoming to everyone. Rosita was well known for her quick wit and sense of humor, as well as her cooking. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, musical theatre, was an avid reader and a Scrabble whiz. Everything she did reflected her faith in God. Rosita was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church and a recipient of the St. George Award for her devotion and work in the church. Rosita was also a lifelong member of the Myrrh Bearing Women's Society of the Church. Rosita is survived by her three children, David (Yvonne) Namey, Regina (Sharon Sharkey) Namey and Ellen (Linda Shaheen) Namey, with whom she made her home. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Brian Namey and Rachel Namey (fiance, Philip Vecchio). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gabriel, and brothers, Joseph Castro Jr. and Fred Castro. The family would like to express special thanks to her caregivers, Bridget, Mary, Bobbie, Jodi and Erica who assisted our mother with tenderness, kindness and love. We would also like to thank AHN Hospice and the Myrrh Bearing Women. Family and friends are welcome from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at RJ SLATER IV FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE, 724-335-0100 , 1000 Freeport Road, New Kensington.
