Sharon Lee Knapp, 67, of New Kensington, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Jan. 13, 2023, at Allegheny Valley Hospital. She was born Sept. 29, 1955, in New Kensington to the late Donald and Juanita (Pelino) Knapp.
Sharon graduated from Valley High School in 1973 and worked at The Valley News Dispatch for over 30 years.
Sharon spent over a year in a nursing and rehabilitation center and was looking forward to returning to her home. She enjoyed flower gardening, watching old classic films and TV shows, reading, American history (especially the Civil War era) as well as learning our own family history. Her favorite thing was spending time with her family, cooking and baking for any type of gathering or holiday. Sharon was a loving, caring daughter, big sister, aunt and our best friend too. She was very proud of all her nieces and nephews. She held our family together and kept our history and traditions going.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her siblings, Evelyn M. (Leonard) Chakan, Douglas E. (Lynda) Knapp, Mark L. (Lisa) Knapp, Scott A. Knapp, and Nicole E. (Dennis) Henry; nieces and nephews, Ashlie and Daniel Knapp, Zachary (Lindsay) and Hannah (Simone) Chakan, Jessica (Alex) Kowalski, Ian (Abbey), Evan (Mackenzie) and Aiden Henry, Emeli (Jhared) Cruzada, and Isabella Knapp, Stephanie (Roberto) West and Veronica and Raymond Costales; great-nephews, Calvin, Julius, Holt and Max; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by paternal and maternal grandparents and nephew, Douglas Knapp Jr.
Sharon will be laid to rest with her parents in Greenwood Memorial Park. Services will be private. Funeral arrangements entrusted to RJ SLATER IV FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, New Kensington, 724-335-0100. www.rjslater.com.
