William M Campbell JR

William "Buzz" Campbell Jr., 89, of Vandergrift, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Born December 07, 1936, in New Kensington, he was a son of the late William and Janet (Durburow) Campbell Sr.

Buzz was the beloved husband of Mercedes (Meisner) Campbell, with whom he shared 70 loving years of marriage. He was the loving father of Robert L. (Diana) Campbell, Jeffery S. (Marjorie) Campbell, Todd A. (Angela) Campbell, Frank P. (Shelley) Campbell, and the late William Campbell III, whose wife, Donna, survives. He was the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Along with his parents and son, Buzz was preceded in death by his four siblings.

Buzz graduated in 1954 and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Marine Corps. He and Mercedes were married on December 10, 1955. Following his military service, Buzz continued his education and training at Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. He was employed by United Airlines for more than 10 years before beginning a long career with Air Products, where he worked until retiring at the age of 63.

In his younger years, Buzz enjoyed hunting and fishing. Later in life, he could often be found cheering on his favorite Pittsburgh sports teams as well as WVU football. Above all else, however, family was what mattered most to Buzz. Some of his greatest joy came from watching his children and grandchildren play sports, supporting them in whatever they were doing, and simply spending time surrounded by the people he loved.

Friends and family are welcome Thursday, September 24th, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, at which time a blessing service will be held at RJ Slater IV Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1000 Freeport Road, New Kensington, PA 15068.
