Virgilio Abad, (October 22, 1934 - April 17, 2020). Virgilio was born in 1934 in Havana, Cuba, as the firstborn of seven children. However, you could say his life truly began nearly 65 years ago when he married his beautiful bride, Dolores. Together they raised four wonderful children, including three daughters - Olga (Giuseppe), Maricela (Richard), and Alina, along with one son - Ariel (Karen). After hearing his brother-in-law talk about God’s promises for mankind’s future on the earth, he decided to have a personal Bible study. He became convinced from that thorough Bible study that Jehovah, the God of the Bible, would fulfill his promise to remove wickedness, suffering, sickness, and death from the earth, thereby enabling the righteous to live on the earth forever with their families in perfect health and true happiness. This lead to a pivotal moment in his life. He dedicated his life and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Havana, Cuba, on August 9, 1970. Virgilio’s adventure with Dolores continued in 1971 when the family moved to Pittsburgh. They were privileged to support the Pittsburgh Spanish Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses from its inception. Virgilio spent much time sharing with others the beautiful truths he learned from the Bible. He worked hard to support his family and became an expert painter by trade. He loved to make people laugh and also enjoyed fishing, gardening, a good game of dominos, playing chess, all the food Dolores ever cooked, of course, his favorite recliner in the corner of the living room and always found great comfort reading Psalms 37. It was here in Pittsburgh that his heart expanded to include the love of 10 grandchildren (Mara, Jessica, Joseph, Joshua, Brandon, Tyler, Brittany, Jonathan, Jason, and Marissa) and 12 great-grandchildren (Jaden, Tessa, Sienna, Zane, Maddox, Gianna, Luca, Kylie, Brody, Brynn, Aiden, and Hannah). He is already deeply missed by all of them. Soon the words of Job 33:25 will come true: “Let his flesh become fresher than in youth; Let him return to the days of his youthful vigor,” and we will welcome him back to life in perfect health on the beautiful Paradise Earth he taught us all to have faith in and look forward to. And for now, we carry his love in our hearts along with all the things he taught us in word and by example.
